Mundane topic alert! I'll bet some of you have an image of me sitting around obsessively crunching diaper prices. I swear it's (mostly) not true! But a reader asked me how much she should be paying per diaper for size 4 premiums. I figured I'd go ahead and create this list for everyone. Make a note of this, it will help you evaluate the deals you find.
These are the per-diaper prices to beat for Cruisers (or Swaddlers) & Huggies Supreme. In other words, this is the most I ever want you to pay per diaper. I arrived at these figures by assuming a $7.99 per jumbo sale and a $1.50 coupon:
Size N: 15-16 cents
Size 1: 13 to 15 cents
Size 2: 16 cents
Size 3: 20 cents
Size 4: 23 cents
Size 5: 25 cents
Size 6: 30 cents
Interestingly, diaper costs double from size N to size 6 (which hopefully you'll never need to buy). Newborn diaper needs can be as much as a dozen diapers per day, while toddlers can get away with as few as six, so it all evens out. Coincidence?

I know you've posted this before, but how do you manage to always have a $1.50 off coupon? I signed up on the Pampers site and have yet to receive any manufacturer's coupons in the mail. Do you find them in the local papers also? Any suggestions (or a point to your previous post) would be most appreciated.
Sunday papers are a great way to get coupons. They put one in at least once a month--go to http://www.pg.com This site will tell you when Pampers coupons will be in the mail again. I also sometimes scour Ebay for coupons--I am bidding right now on 20 some bucks worth of coupons, but I won't pay more than 5. You have to factor in for yourself there if it will be worth it. I also use craigslist as a tool to trade coupons with other mothers. I still get formula checks in all the time, so i'll either give them away or trade for other coupons.
thanks for posting these prices to beat! working at target has it's benefits too--10% off! at the end of the year, that measly 10% adds up!
I can get my diapers at costco for $.17 each for size 3. They are even the Huggies brand!! So i feel that is pretty good. I live in a small town so if i would buy them locally i would have to pay at least .40-.45 cents for each diaper. its just crazy what small towns charge for diapers.
emily,
Here's a link to the recent post about diaper coupons:
http://tinyurl.com/ynmxwc
We bought 3 packs of huggies supreme at target on sale this week for 8.00 and had a 1.50 off coupon for 2 of them. It was a lot cheaper than buying the box for 19.99 and we got more diapers. We registered on the huggies website for my address and my mom's. We also get them in the paper from my parents.
Thank you so much for this list. I printed it out and put it in my wallet for quick reference. With two in diapers (size 2 and size 4), I can never remember what a good price is per diaper.
I love the Baies r Us brand of diapers (Especially for Babies). There is usually a coupon for $7 off in the circulars which always come in the mail right about the time I need more diapers. My daughter wears a size 3 and I buy the 144 count boxes and I come out only paying a little over .10 per diaper.
Thank you! For new parents, the size one is cheaper than newborn!! (during newborn brain fog we didn't realize this and kept buying newborn when we should've/could've moved to size one) Also sometimes Sam's (or elsewhere) has a size 1-2 that can be a GREAT price when you're buying size 2 (but not an advantage when you're buying size 1).
Our son (almost 2) usually gets away with 3 diapers a day. Is that unusual? Our kids never seem to mind having a wet diaper.

I still think it's cheaper to get the box of 92 and using a coupon rather than 2 jumbo packs with 2 coupons... I get huggies and pampers size 4 for a maximium of 21 cents a diaper.
PS Publix has the 160 count box of Pampers swaddlers on sale again this week for 29.99 (which is 18 cents a pice with a $1.50 off coupon or 19 cents without one!) I'm stocking up for baby 2 due in November!
I love this website-- thanks Angie for all the good info!!!!
Kierstin,
Congrats on the impending arrival!
You're right, the Publix boxes are sometimes a good deal. They're my sometimes-exception to the rule about bulk buying. Too bad Target won't follow their example and lower their prices on boxes.
I do have to buy the size 6 because my son is 2 and he is bigger. But not obese. (hopefully not much longer because he decided last night that he wanted to go potty. YES!) Anyway, I buy from Dollar General and pay only 25 cents per diaper. I didn't think that was too great until I was comparing on the website. thanks for the information. It really has helped me.
I never get any pampers coupons, but I have 3 $1.50 off Huggies coupons and a $1.00 off coupon as well.
Sam's club sells Pampers Cruisers for 21 cents per diaper size 3 and 26 cents per diaper size 4. I never have any pampers coupons, so in that case this is the best I can usually do.
This is somewhat off topic but I recently tried Target brand diapers after reading the review here. I'm actually pretty impressed and LOVE the price. $5.74 for 40 (size 2) which is $.14 per diaper. I have a hard time finding Pampers/Huggies coupons too so the Target diapers are a great deal for me.
Have you done a per-training pants price on Huggies Pullups and the rest of the pull on style training pants?
debbi,
I haven't yet, but I've been compiling data. I have a 2 year old now, after all!
I got a good deal this weekend and I'm just so pleased I have to share...
Pampers Pull Ups were on sale 2 packs for $16 (regularly about $10.50 or so) I'm buying the 26 pack of size 5's right now. I had a $2 and a $3 coupon from the paper.
Then I grabbed two $1.69 packs of Pampers wipes so I could use the Target Coupon Generator for $3 off if you buy wipes & diapers... so I used two of those.
Grand Total: 52 Pull Ups and 60 (or so) wipes for $8.38. That's about 16 cents a pull up I think... plus free wipes.
You gotta do it. Just be sure to get the coupon that says any wipes and not the 180 count or larger coupon.
Oh, and for those of you looking for coupons... check the packages you buy.... I could see the edges of a coupon card through the sides of some of the pull up packs so I made sure to get those.... two more $2 off coupons....
Just got in on a killer deal at Babies-R-Us. Got 420 size 4 Cruisers for .216 cents each. This week, they have a coupon for $5 off EVERY jumbo box purchased - no limit! That, combined w/ a couple $1.00 off coupons from the local Sunday insert, equals one heckuva good deal!
Expired coupons will scan in the self checkout @ Walmart. Likely because it takes them a while to get them to the manufacturer and most are likely expired by then anyways.
Also, you can use any brand coupon for any product of that brand. For example: I have a coupon for $2.50 off Pull-ups. Guess what? It will scan towards the Baby Dry or Cruisers! Or you can use a $1.00 coupon on huggies diapers towards wipes! (that then makes it how much per wipe? j/k) =)
The savings just got even better....
Costco is the best I can find up here in MI; even if I have a manufacturer's coupon! I buy the Kirkland Brand which is Costco's label.
size 1/2 ~ 234 for $29.99 = .13/diap.
size 3 ~ 200 for $34.89 = .17/diap.
size 4 ~ 184 for $34.89 = .19/diap.
size 5 ~ 160 for $34.89 = .22/diap.
Thanks for the info; I'll have to double check Babies R Us to see if they're cheaper w/ the coupon here.
Mama,
You'll generally save more with store brands. The figures above are just for premiums, of course. Target has fantastic prices on their diapers, too--size 3 for less than 15 cents!
You can get Pampers coupons inside the Pampers diapers, unfortunately after you buy them. And I've gotten store coupons for Pampers. I think I get the store coupon because I've bought Huggies diapers.
Amazon.com sells Seventh Generation diapers, which are biodegradable and chlorine free. If you sign up for the subscribe and save, you save 15%. So for size 3s, it's $35.69 for 160 diapers, about $.22 ea. If you get the Amazon Visa, you get 5% back on all purchases, so it averages out to $.21 a diaper and they are delivered right to your door (free shipping) and you don't have to watch for sales. AND you are helping our environment. Just food for thought. The diapers have stretchy tabs and I've never had a problem with leaks and NEVER had diaper rashes.
I got the best deal this weekend for diapers, 132 Especially for Baby diapers for 10 dollars which equals to be 0.08 cents a diaper
March 12- Angie, you mentioned somewhere that you'd be updating the per-diaper pricing to reflect the recent increases... have you done that yet? Are these the old prices? Can I just add a couple cents to each one?
Thanks so much!
(I guess i don't know how you do comments either... if you'll even see this! oh well)
Angie updated this chart of prices in a recent post, but she needs to make the link from the main site go to the new post instead of this one.
done! Thanks Joey's Mom!
