what is a good price for the Britax decathlon?
You can get a boulevard on amazon for $230 with $9 or $10 shipping(I'm sure it depends on where you live, but still!). We did!
I bought my Roundabout on eBay for $149 + $25 shipping ($174 total). It was a 2007 model, brand new, in the original sealed packaging, and shipped from Albee Baby.
Just did some reading over at Consumer Reports:
The Roundabout scores much higher in CR's most recent tests than the Marathon. Evenflo Triumph 5 and Cosco Alpha-Omega Elite scored higher than Marathon.
The Triumph 5 outscored the Roundabout in Infant and Toddler LATCH crash protection and Infant belt crash protection, and the Roundabout outscored the Triumph in ease of use.
Sorry I can't link to the ratings. It's subscriber only.
If you'd like to learn more about car seats, the differences between the various Britax models, for example, you can become an expert by reading the advice of the folks at the Car Seat message board at iVillage (Go to iVillage and search for it).
Another great resource for anything and everything car seat safety related is:
http://www.car-safety.org/
and it's forum with tons of knowledgable people at:
http://www.car-seat.org/
Thanks! I couldn't remember that one.
I recently found the Britax Marathon at BJ's warehouse for $229.00.
If you are a military person they often have the Marathon's for really good prices. I got 3 for $179 a piece with free shipping.
I am in the market for a booster seat and would like to know which ones are good.
This post is for Britax sale info only, anon.
You can learn about car seats at one of the sites mentioned above, and you can find out what people have to say about them at buzzillions.com, amazon, etc.
We have 4 Roundabouts and loved them. That is, until my four-year-old was too tall for it, but too light to go into a booster. We had to buy an in-between seat. So if you have tall skinny kids, go with the Marathon! We still love the Roundabouts for the littler kids.
I just ordered a Boulevard on babyage.com a couple days ago. It was $229 with free shipping (found the free shipping code via Google search). It said "closeout", so I assume it's the 2007 model.
Don't forget about the new Diplomat! It offers the true side impact like the Boulevard but smaller. My daughter is huge (off the charts) and I could not fit her into the Boulevard because the crotch snap was too close to the back of the car seat so she was sitting on it. The Diplomat has more interior (where your baby sits) space then most and does not take up as much room in your vehicle as others. This is the first car seat I have ever used and find it a tad difficult to get Amelia in and out of it but that is likely due to the side impact wings and somthing I will tolerate for safety's sake. I got mine on Ebay brand new and sealed for $230 including shipping. Best deal I could find!
Target has the Roundabout for $179, use the $5 coupon and shipping is free too!
Thanks, Laura!
AlbeeBaby has the "Marathon clone" FP Safe Voyage marked down to $129.99.
http://tinyurl.com/354e84
If you go through www.aaa.com/target you can get an additional 10% off on the checkout page. I just got a Marathon for $216 (incl tax) shipped. (Not sure if you can combine it with the $5 coupon - I forgot about mine when I was checking out :(
This is a good site for consumer ratings. http://www.consumersearch.com/www/family/car-seats/
I got my Marathon at Babyage.com during the Fall "closeout" for $209 plus $7.95 shipping.
If you have bigger kids, Target has the Regent (the 5-point harness booster for toddlers from 22 lbs to 80 lbs) on sale for $229 and free shipping, regular price $269.
The FP Safe Voyage is actually made by Britax
We bought the FP Safe Voyage (Britax Marathon clone) from Albee Baby for $129 and we love it. I recently had to take it apart to clean it and the styrofoam pieces under the covering actually say Marathon. It's a little less plush, but still a fantastic carseat!
The babyage.com college Roundabouts have one non-logo cover. It's labeled as "Blank metallic", but doesn't look very metallic in the photo (don't know if the velor is shimmery or what), just a basic gray cover.
As a new mom, who wouldn't need this seat for 6 mos. or so. Is this a good enough offer to buy and set aside or will I find similar deals later in the year? Also is buying ahead a bad idea because of size/fit?
There should also be some good sales in the fall, esp. around Labor Day. As for fit, that's a good question for somebody at one of the car seat forums we've mentioned.
My son's tall and thin, and we've been in the Scenera since he moved out of the infant carrier. Still seems fine at age 2 1/2.
I recommend http://www.car-seat.org for learning about the various car seats. Consumer Reports does NOT do well at evaluating baby stuff, esp. car seats. That link is where CPST (Child Passenger Safety Technician -- they have to pass a class to be licensed this way, and then there are requirements to keep the licensing up.) hang out and they have dealt with a lot of different types of seats and are willing to offer advice and help to fit your situation. And, also, help you find a CPST local that will check out your install/help with difficulties if necessary.
"AlbeeBaby has the "Marathon clone" FP Safe Voyage marked down to $129.99."
The FP Safe Voyage is a Great Seat! The hesitancy about it now is that it is now discontinued. As time goes on, the DOM (date of manufacture) of that seat will be further and further in the past. And the life of a seat starts at the DOM, not at the date you purchased it. Also, getting "fix parts" may become more difficult since it is no longer being made.
There is an October sale too. I bought my Britax Boulevard at tinyride.com for $235 + free shipping. There were LOTS of color selections.
where do I find the $5 Target coupon so I can order my daughter's new Maarathon?
I bought 2 Roundabouts @ babyage.com for $149 + free shipping. Our cars are black and grey so the Blank Metallic was considered but it was sold out by 8:30 est this morning. The Texas Collegiate is the same color with the longhorn logo, so I got 2 of those instead. Very happy with this deal!
If you go through AAA like the previous person mentioned. Add your items to your cart then open another internet window and go through ebates.com back to target you can get 7% back on your purchase. If that makes any sense. I just ordered a Marathon and the total with tax was 222.00. Then through ebates I will get about 15.00 back. In the end my marathon will end up costing about 207.00.
i got one from my sil, but would like a new cover...any word on the covers going on sale?...thanks!
Are the roundabouts at babyage sold out? I tried doing a search, and wasn't finding the $149 deal. If not, could someone post a link? Thanks!
The only Roundabouts on sale at Babyage.com are the collegiate collection, but it looks like they are all sold out.
http://tinyurl.com/2cqyv3
Just wanted to add that albeebaby.com has a few Roundabouts at $189 and free shipping. I ordered my Blvd from here about 2 weeks ago for $224.
Just ordered the Boulevard from BabyAge... you can get free shipping if you sign up for their newsletter. Actually, the code is just "welcome," so I guess you don't have to sign up now if you don't want to :-)
Does anyone know how long the Target baby sale is going to last? I have a 10% discount card coming my way from my (over)use of my Target card. I just wanted to know if I would be able to use it while the Britax was on sale!
Where is this sale on Britax going to be? I need the Boulevard. Are the rices going to be less than they are now? Should I wait till the end of the month?
Angie (and others), I want to know pros/cons of a Britax vs. the Cosco Scenera.
Maybe its just my computer, but are some of the links missing under the "Latest Sales" section of this post?
Thanks for posting the 10% off link through AAA for the Target. I ended up getting the Britax Regent for $210 shipped. It was on sale for $229 plus tax but ships free. Used the 10% off and got 3% cash back from Upromise. Not sure if I could get it any cheaper but I really wanted the Madison style so I ordered.
Does anyone know if the Diplomat, the "smaller" of the Britax seats, is narrower or shorter than the rest of their seats? My hubby and I are both over 6 feet tall and have a Scion xA car... obviously with the front seats pushed all of the way back. Normal (read, all others) carseats out there are too long to fit in the car with us in it too. We are considering the Diplomat, but can't figure out how it is smaller. If this doesn't work, we may have to buy a bigger car.... and baby is due in May! Thanks for the help!
I think the target sale on the roundabout may be over, or I'm not seeing it...
Yep. Target sale over. I saw them online, discussed with DH (we're deciding about whether or not to wait to see if they'll get cheaper). Went back to get it a few days later and GONE!
We already have 1 Roundabout and LOVE it so we're getting another for our 2nd car. First was from target for 219, trying to save some money on the 2nd one! :) Hopefully the 24th rumor is true and we'll all get a good deal!
Check out the Roundabouts on sale at Albee Baby, anon. They're $189/190. (see the link in the post)
anon -
You can only get the covers from the Britax webpage now (unless other retailers have them left over) I emailed Britax and they said they were the only ones selling them from now on. I think I paid about $70 for mine - much cheaper than a new seat. My old cover's elastic was all stretched out and falling off.
I just bought the Britax Regent carseat at http://www.bestbuybaby.com/britaxcarseats.html
for $239.00. Free Shipping.
I am looking for a deal on the britax monarch booster.. Anybody know of one?!? Thanks in Advance!!
I'm waiting for the Britax semiannual sale too.Can anyboby tell me where do they offer it last year? But to let you know, travelingtikes.com have them for $219- marathon.
Does anyone have any experience with using the Boulevard vs. the Marathon? I am looking into getting one or the other for my 9 month old and would love some feedback!
Jessica, I have a BLVD for my 7 month old & LOVE it! It is big, but does fit in my trailblazer (SUV) behind the drivers seat, my husband is over 6 ft & I'm 5'8", so we're both fairly tall & can still drive comfortably (the seat just sits up pretty straight). My son is so comfy in it & I feel great knowing that he's so safe in it too! Since he doesn't know the difference I don't see the wings as ever being a problem for us either, he had the Peg Perego infant seat. (Also ours is in the Regency pattern that has had the most closeout prices & I'm happy with the fabric). Hope this helps! I don't know much about the marathon other than it is popular.
oops! I meant the Regal pattern not Regency. $229 + 7.95 shipping right now @ www.babyage.com There are also some good reviews on it too!
The sale on the marathons at Shop.com must have ended yesterday.
Nope. Still going on. It's $229. Sign up for the emails and you'll get a coupon for 10% off which you can use to bring the price down as described.
Anyone know where the best deal on a Diplomat is? The best I can find is $220.99. Is that a good price? Should I wait? Seems like 259 is the going rate...
I just bought the Marathon at Baby Age for $209 (used the free shipping code 'welcome').
So I'm a little confused about the sale... I'm seeing a lot of Britax carseats on sale right now... is the sale suppose to get better on Sunday? Can anyone clear it up for me? Thanks!
We have to wait and see. Twice a year Britax lifts pricing restrictions, allowing stores to discount the seats more than usual.
I found a website that you can click on the link and get great savings off Britax at BabyAge's website, plus there is free shipping! All selections of Boulevards are $239.99 and Roundabouts at $174.99. I didn't check the other seats, but I'm sure they are all on sale! Let the shopping begin! :o)
These ARE the sale prices at BabyAge, and Britax shipping is free right now regardless of how you enter the site.
Cover replacements for $50! Not sure if this is a good price, but BabyAge has the Roundabout covers for $50 so does SafeAndSecureBaby.com. I am in need - mine has streched out after two kids and I still have one kid left!
I purchased the Marathon in Onyx on Amazon through babyage.com for $201.97 and a Marathon in New Denim for $209.99. Total was $411.66.
Amazon is now 20% off for most Britax this week (starting 2/24).
See the Amazon link above--they say up to 20% but I'm finding prices lower than that!
Can anyone tell me how well a Marathon or Blvd would fit in a Accord? My husband has to have the driver's seat all the way back. Will either of these seats fit?
Regents are $199 at the right start- B&M and online- they are that price "until they are gone" is what I was told.
I have a Toyota Corolla, and the Marathon will only fit in that will the seat half way up, which is fine for me. So I would assume that with the seat all the way back with a Honda Accord that it would not fit. The Marathon is a very large carseat. Guess it has to be to go all the way up to 65 lbs.
Yay! I just got a UGA Roundabout for $149 shipped from BabyAge. Thanks Angie and go dawgs!
Oh, I forgot to mention I used the coupon code FSFEBA at BabyAge.com to get free shipping on my $149.99 order. Otherwise the base shipping would have been $7.95.
When I went to BabyAge tonight and tried to purchase two Marathons, they charged me shipping, so I canceled the order. I got two from Amazon for slightly more, but free shipping, so it worked out.
We don't have a marathon but we do have a Britax Decathlon (not certain, but I think it may be larger than the marathon) and it fits perfect behind the passenger seat in our 2007 Accord. We put the carseat in and then pushed the front seat back as far as we could. We've had a lot of tall people sit in the passenger seat and have no problems with leg room. Hope that helps.
I was just wondering if Babies r Us would be putting their seats on sale. I have a 15% off coupon I would like to use and was going to apply for a credit card for another 10% off if they go on sale. If they are not going to I need to order a new seat online. If anyone can help, please let me know. Thanks!
kewd,
You should have gotten free shipping on Britax at Baby Age! Too late now, of course, but there are a couple of free shipping codes in the comments above. Plus, Britax is advertised at B.A. as shipping free through March 1.
Thanks, emily and nikolas. That's very helpful.
I just bought the Britax Roundabout in Huntington color for $239 at www.happymothers.com - shipping is free and there's no tax. They have lots of colors still available and good prices on the other Britax models as well. the Marathon is $219 and the Roundabout is $189 and the Decathalon and the Diplomat are $229.
mj, I'm not holding my breath for *R-Us to put them on any kind of major sale. I actually have $60 worth of gift card money there and was hoping for a sale. However, even with the $60 GC discount it was still cheaper out of pocket for me to get my Roundabout at BabyAge.com. Good luck, though!
ack. ignore my previous post. I said I bought the Roundabout in Huntington. I meant to say I bought the BOULEVARD in Huntington! Duh...it was $239 at www.happymothers.com with free shipping and no tax.
Did anyone use the Marathon on a plane? We are going to travel to Europe soon and I was wondering if what you think?
Stephanie
Amazon has the Regent on sale for $204 with no shipping. I ordered one today.
Doesn't look like BRU is marking them down. I was just there looking for other things and checked. Nice idea though!
This site is AWESOME. I got the Britax Roundabout (UMD Collegiate) for 154.97 with shipping and the FP Safe Voyage Booster Seat for 34.99 with shipping.
Note: The big Britax is for online sites. They have restrictions on prices things can be sold for online, but different rules for brick and mortars. So that might be why Babies R Us doesn't have it on sale.
I suspect it is Target.com with carseats on sale, not the Target stores?
Angie: Consumer Reports is terrible at car seats (in specific, and baby stuff in general) Particularly, they put way too much emphasis on price, and too little emphasis on ease of use in actual use and longevity of use before you have to buy a new seat, as well as keeping kids harnessed as long as possible (instead of bare legal minimums). And their "Safety checks" are not borne out in actual use of these seat in crashes. So, since they will not give out data on how they test their seats, tehre's a lot of skepticism about what they report. (And the one test we do know more data about, we know they completely botched to the point they had to recall the data!)
The Alpha-Omega Elite is a good seat for rearfacing an infant up to 35 pounds. It is not, EVER, the only seat you will ever need. Most children outgrow it at about 3 years old, way too young to go into a booster. Many outgrow it Forward facing before they outgrow it rear-facing! 40 lbs is bare minimum to go into booster, and most children should remain harnessed longer than that. But! The height on the AOE (second slots not top. The top slot is for use ONLY in booster mode, though evidently most parents use it with the harness and don't realize this) is not high enough to keep most children harnessed to the 40 lbs "limit" of the seat harness.
The evenflow Triumph 5 has similar problems with being outgrown early and needing to buy another seat afterwards. Though I am hearing that the Evenflow Triumph Advance is giving the Marathon a run for its money among those who not only use car seats themselves, but go to car checks and see how other parents are using their car seats, etc.
I can't get BabyAge to take my order! I was going to order two collegiate Roundabouts and the order form says that my address doesn't exist. I've lived here 14 years and order online all the time. I e-mailed their customer service last week and have yet to get a response. I gave up, went to Target and got a Graco. I only got one in case I don't like it. I know I love the Roundabout.
I bought my Boulevard today from Amazon for $225, free shipping! After tax around $240 I believe. Not bad at all! Thanks for the heads up this was a week to be looking and buying one. It's just about time for us to switch our little one over.
I have used a Marathon on a plane several times and it works fine. A little tight in front (can't walk in front of it), but it isn't a problem. I use it on the go go kidz travelmate and it is wonderful to not have to carry it through the airport! Good luck.
I saw that someone asked about putting a Marathon in an airplane seat. I just got my daughter a Boulevard and noticed it looks a little larger than the Marathon. Does anyone have any experience with carrying on a Boulevard on an airplane?
I just ordered a BLVD in Barrington from Amazon for $225, free shipping and no tax...can't beat it!
Thanks Christie! I just added the Boulevard link to the post above!
If you spend over $150 at babyuniverse you can use the code VISASAVES for $20 off. It says its not valid on Britax but I tried it and it worked!
I just can't decide! I have a 14 pound 10 month old, almost 27" tall...so I think I can last until fall when they go on sale again to move her up to a convertible car seat, but who knows? I am still loving being able to get her in her infant seat & being able to carry her in that instead of getting her in & out of a regular car seat...but......what if I need it before fall? And do I really NEED a britax? I've read SUCH good reviews on them, but they are still SO much money! AGH! Can't decide!! Jill
No, anon, you don't NEED a Britax. They're highly rated, but all seats sold today meet government safety standards.
Try checking out the posts at car-safety.org and car-seat.org for advice.
*sighs* I sure wish (well, a little) I needed the Roundabout already! What if those $150 prices don't come again when he moves into it? I know Marathon has higher limits. But I think for $150 I'd take the smaller limits in exchange for easier use! But I don't want to lose the 6 months of life (at least) I'd be losing by buying it now. (either in the current Safeseat or in the new Roundabout, depending on which I ended up using as his seat). And yes I will kick myself if I end up needing it sooner than I think!
We have a Britax Roundabout....and bought an Alpha Omega Elite for our second because it was over $100 cheaper. I HATE it. I just ordered a second Roundabout for $175 and am selling my Alpha Omega on Craigslist for $50. I should have bought the Britax in the first place...but I waited for the sale. Thanks for scouting the deals. I finally have the "cowmooflauge" seat I wanted!
Anyone know if the babyage code "wow06" for 10% off will work on Britax? I've already entered the free shipping code and it keeps telling me only 1 code allowed when I try to enter the 10% code.
I purchased an Evenflo Triumph Deluxe bc it was highly rated, some safety conscious friends had it, and it was less $$ than the Britax. I really don't like it for many reasons and decided to purchase a Britax. I waited bc I saw the post on Baby Cheapskate and I am so glad I waited. I purchased a Blvd on Amazon earlier this week and saved $$. Yay, I love saving money. Thanks to BC!
My boaz's ruth: that's EXACTLY what I was trying to say on my "can't decide" comment! You said it much better...I hope I don't regret not getting it now, too! :) Jill

The Boulevard Huntington from Amazon is 206.59 plus 9.99 shipping.
If you want to get a Britax carseat, now is the time to do it. That is unless your baby hasn't been born yet, then in my opinion you can wait for the next big sale.
Poshtots.com has all Britax, seats & strollers on sale 15-25% off plus FREE shipping....I myself like Alpha Omega Elite but for all you Britax folks it sounds like a great deal.
At Amazon.com the Britax Boulevard Huntington is 206.59 with free shipping.
If you open an Amazon credit card and save an additional $30
Your cost after savings: $176.59
or the Marathon in Onyx is on sale for 200.70 also with free shipping
Your cost after savings is $170.70
Make sure to select FREE Super Saver Shipping as your shipping speed at checkout
Yesterday, I purchased a Boulevard for $201 (free shipping and no tax!) from Baby Universe. I used the "VISASAVES" code.
For those of you asking about fitting the Britax - we have 2 mazda protege 5s (the hatchback mini stationwagon). My husband is over 6 ft. When he sits in the driver's seat, it's pushed nearly into the back seat. We were able to install the Roundabout into the back of both cars with no problem.
The only "bucket" infant seat that fit for us was the Combi - and we found that once we switched to the Roundabout, it actually took up less room.
Actually joey's mom, Britax has sales two times a year. So it is more a matter of "Will my kid last in his current seat for 6 more months" (esp. because Britax seats are changing over to being 35 pounds rear-facing instead of 33. For a large kid, this makes a difference)
Though, since my previous comment, I have learned that there is only 1 inch of height diference between the Roundabout and the Safeseat... I guess we won't be going to the Roundabout. It's too expensive for 1 inch of growth. So I guess we're back to looking at the Boulevard or the Marathon (or the Evenflo Triumph _Advance_ or maybe something new that comes out between now and then) and checking him out in all of the above at Babies R Us or somewhere to decide which fits him, and our car, better. Which really does mean waiting until he is closer to actually using the seat.
I tell myself this is why I bought the Safeseat, so it would be longer before I have to buy another seat. But boy is it tempting to buy NOW with these prices!
ETA: I should say, to be exact, Britax allows online retailers to be the Britax seats on sales twice a year.
Wow- just got a Marathon from Poshtots for $202 and free ship! That's the best deal on that pattern for sure! Thanks SO MUCH to the anon poster who prefers Alpha Omega Elite :)
I had my son in the Graco Safeseat thinking it would last for a year and it didn't. My son was 29.5 inches at 6 months old and by 9 months old he was 32 inches. However his weight was not proportionate to that, so he needed to be rear facing till 15 months old. I loved the Safeseat Carrier, but it was definately heavy for a petite woman like myself.
Just picked up a Marathon in all-star blue for $189 on Baby Catalog with free shipping. The price on that pattern dropped $10 this afternoon.
You must have had a VERY long (in the torso) son for him to outgrow the Safeseat by length before a year old. Even people with very big babies are having the seat last at least a year. But, it is true, that every child is different. (It is only torso height that matters. Instead of being an absolute matter like weight. Infant seats are outgrown by height when their heads are within an inch of the top of the shell -- though evidently people often mistakenly think their babies are within an inch of the top when they aren't because it is hard to eyeball the difference. You need to measure parallel to the slope of the shell at that point).
As for weight -- I am 5'2" and my baby is now 20 pounds and I can still carry him in the carrier when I need to. It has never been easy, but it is still perfectly possible. The problem is not weight so much as awkwardness.
Got my Marathon today at babycatalog.com for $189. I was thrilled.
Thanks for keeping up with the Britax sales for us Angie! After waiting and debating, I got the Marathon Mariposa for $199 w/no tax and free ship from Baby Catalog of American. Yippie!
We're going to be due for a new carseat/booster seat later this year -- do you have any idea if the next Britax sale will be 6 months after this one (late August) or when? Thanks!!!
le sigh,
That's when I think it will be. As we get closer, we'll be able to narrow down the dates.
Thank you, Angie. Should be perfect timing for us, unless she decides to suddenly gain weight at 3x the rate she has been (always a possibility with these little ones!)
Cheers,
Kristi
Target has clearance on their Britaxes in store right now. Marathons are 188!!! That is unbelievable to me. I am holding out for another boulevard but still.
Hipmonkey.com will price match any Britax, has free shipping and proceeds go to a good charity... Please check it out. :)
2008 Britax Sale Starts September 15th and goes till midnight on the 21 st.
I just got my Roundabout on BabyUniverse.com. I went through the website through ebates.com (and I am getting 5% cashback on my prurchase), then I used coupon code BUNL175 for 10$ off. I paid $187 for the seat and I am getting 5% cashback, so this bring the seat to about $180. Not bad! Hope this can help some of your readers!
Anyone know of how to get better deals on the couture designs of the Britax Boulevard?
