Get Paid to Be Opinionated

Have you ever signed up with one of those companies that offers to pay you for completing surveys? I recently found out about one such company, Synovate, and was intrigued enough to do some research.

Here's some info from Synovate's site:

Synovate is a leading global provider of market research information and analysis with over 50 years of experience. Synovate provides its panelists with a voice to be heard by some of the largest companies in the world. ...Earn points redeemable for cash by taking surveys with the Synovate Rewards Program. Refer a friend to earn even more points.
Points? Cash? Here's the scoop from their TOS and FAQs: You get 5 to 5000 points for completing a survey, and they say most panelists receive "a few surveys per month." Once you accumulate 5000 points, you can redeem them online for cash at a rate of $1 for each $1000 points. In short, the surveys pay anywhere from almost nothing to $5 each, and you're informed upfront about how many points they're worth. I'm guessing panelists earn about $15 to $30 a month--enough to buy two or three packs of diapers. When you register, they also ask if you're interested in trying out new products.

Next, I did some Googling to see what I could find out about their reputation. No red flags. I read their terms of service. The privacy policy seemed fine to me, so I signed up. The registration process was pretty painless. In addition to the usual info, they asked a few general questions about household income, household members and occupations. I didn't feel like it was too invasive. We'll see what happens! I'll keep you posted, and I'll probably post a review of the program in a couple of months. Would any of you like to join me?

If you'd like to join or check into Synovate's Global Opinion Panels, here's a link: Join the Synovate Panel

Two more good ones (according to users below) are American Consumer Opinion and Opinion Outpost. Join American Consumer Opinion here. Join Opinion Outpost here.

I just received my "welcome" survey. It's pretty quick and worth 250 points.

I'm a member with them. It's easy. Never redeemed any points yet....There are others I do surveys with too and get paid!

I am registered with a survey company that pays. Just the other day I received an $8 check for a survey I did just a few weeks ago. I can't remember the official name of the company but it's somehthing like Consumer Opinion Network. I get emails about relevant surveys that are worth anywhere from $1-$10. I am also supposedly entered in a monthly $10,000 drawing for every survey I complete.

I am a member of eRewards, and I complete surveys in exchange for $ for Upromise. So if any of you are Upromise members, you should definitely check out eRewards. For every $100 you earn in surveys, you get $50 towards Upromise.

I have always been intrigued by these. Thanks for doing the leg work Angie!

Yes, that's the one and I just registered with this one, also.

I'm already a Synovate member, and I love them! They're ALWAYS sending me tons of free stuff to try out. Last year they sent me 2 free jumbo packs of Luvs to see how I liked the new stretchy tabs! And I'm always getting bottles of shampoo & conditoner, deoderant, and lately tons of perfumes to try out. They are definately worth the time! Another one to try out is PineCone Reasearch, it's a garunteed $3/survey, and you always have your check within a week.

Another one to try out is Lightspeed Research. They recently sent me a palm pilot to keep track of everything I drank for 2 weeks and I got paid $85 for it!

Angela said...

I wish :) I had to send it back today. They had them specially programed so all you could access was their survey.

Shannon said...

Angela, do you know how to join Lightspeed? I've heard about them in the past, but never found a way to join.

I'm interested in eRewards. We are Upromise members and have the Upromise VISA. Does someone have more information on this program or know where I can sign up. Every little bit helps for college education. Thank you.

Angie said...

I tried to join erewards. The page says the program isn't accepting new members right now.

Here's the Lightspeed Research link I used to join:

Angie,

Since you told us about this website, is there a way that we can say that you referred us so you get extra points?

Allison said...

I joined eRewards tonight through the Upromise website. Thanks for all the tips everyone!

Angie said...

You're sweet, Joey's Mom! Just use the links in the post to access the Synovate site. That'll do the trick!

Angie said...

Allison,
Can you tell us how you accessed eRewards through the UPromise site? I can't seem to do it.

Angie said...

Nevermind. I found the UPromise link under "partners" Here's the link, but you may have to log in first:

I did Synovate a while ago. It was a lot of time for very little return. I got much better stuff through bzzagent (different model), though ended up discontinuing because I felt like I had to sell the products.

I registered with a number of survey companies last fall, then have since weeded through so that I'm down to the ones that actually send me surveys, and that I actually get points from. Thus far I have gotten about $90 total - $40 of it in Amazon gift cards (my choice), and the rest in checks mailed to me, and I probably have another $20 or so that I have not yet redeemed. Here are the companies that I have found to be good (some are repeats from above): your2cents, mysurvey, Lightspeed, OpinionOutpost, Synovate, and ACOP (American Consumer Opinion). I get anywhere from 1 to 10 survey requests a day, and I pick and choose which I feel like doing, if any. I have also had products sent to me to test out. You do have to qualify for most surveys in order to receive points/money, so a lot of them I try for and do not qualify (i.e. I'm not the profile they were looking for). Anyway, hope this is helpful for some of you!

Thanks Amanda. That's very helpful. Opinion Outpost is new one.

I don't know much about these programs but am intrigued and found an interesting article about paid survey companies done last Dec. They list their 'top 4' and how much they were able to make a day. The link is http://www.best-survey-jobs.com/

Sarah said...

I too use mysurvey.com and I've already earned two $20 checks! They were mailed promptly and I loved trying out new products!

I made several hundred dollars last year from surveys, and my favorite site appears to not be listed yet:
http://www.globaltestmarket.com/
I made about $100 from them last year--far, far more than any other company (I think maybe I made $5 or $10 from Synovate last year)

Michelle said...

A great way to check the ratings on these companies is http://www.surveypolice.com/. They tend to be pretty accurate.

Amanda said...

I did want to add one more thing, and that is that there are companies out there that require you to pay a fee before you can take surveys and earn money. I, personally, am skeptical of that sort of thing, so all the survey sites I had listed above are free membership. Thanks too on the tip for GlobalTestMarket, I plan to sign up for that one as well!

Angie said...

Thanks, Amanda. That's a very important point. NONE of the reputable companies require you to pay a fee. If a company asks you to pay money to join, I'd take it as a sure sign that it's a scam.

Speaking of which, the "best survey jobs" article linked to above seems sketchy to me. It's written like a journalistic article, but none of the large companies we've mentioned are in it, and I've never heard of the companies that are. Also, the monthly amounts listed for the four companies seem too high. Maybe it's just me.

When I joined eRewards last year, they gave me $2.00 in my Upromise account just for signing up! It takes a few months for the $2.00 to show up in your account. I was sent an invitation to join from Upromise, so you may want to check your Upromise e-mails for an invite. I believe you can also sign up from their site but I'm not sure how. In a few month I'm already up to $53.

Anonymous said...

When I said you can sign up from their site, I mean Upromise, not eRewards. Just wanted to clarify.

Angie said...

Thanks, anon. Readers: See the comments above to find out how to sign up for eRewards through UPromise.

I too do surverys. Last year I made $59 through Global Test Market and Survey SPot. Survery Spot will send specific surveys for $ amounts, but most of theirs are just entries into a prize. I also do Lightspeed though I have not redeemed much from them. If I have time I do the surveys and if not I just delete them. I am currently about to get some baby wipes to try as part of a survery. Sort of fun! I will check out the link to umpromise, that sounds "promising."

joey's mom said...

I would love to know how much some of your ladies make by doing these surveys.

Amanda said...

To make it more helpful, here is what I have redeemed thus far, broken down by survey company (numbers in parenthesis afterwards indicate money I have earned from these companies but have not yet redeemed):
Lightspeed: $40
Opinion Outpost: $7 ($8)
ACOP: $8 (was sent body wash)
Synovate: $10 ($5)
MySurvey: $20
Your2Cents: $7 ($8)
EPoll: $3
I also have about $15 at MyView, but it's a bit annoying cause you can't redeem until you accrue $25. Hopes this helps.

Amanda-
Are those the totals from when you started in the fall? Just trying to figure out the time to $ ratio.
Thanks for sharing all the info! I'm interested in how all this works!

Angie said...

I've now joined five or six of these survey companies and I'm going to be creating a series of articles about my experiences with them (i.e. earnings). I'll probably give it a few weeks until my first one, so if anybody feels unsure and wants to hang back until they can see some data...

SurveyPolice.com, as someone above mentioned, is a great place to find feedback on these companies.

Alllison said...

How long after you sign up do you start getting surveys?

Amanda said...

Well the amounts that I listed above are from the last 3-4 months. I have not spent too much time on it, cause I just don't have that much time - I mostly do 1 or 2 a day while my kids nap. I also wasted a lot of time initially doing surveys for companies who just entered me into sweepstakes, and I soon got very tired of that and unsubscribed from them. Also, I think I'm a pretty common profile, so I don't qualify into a lot of the surveys. But the ones that give the most points (points=$) are the ones that send you products to test, and those are the most fun anyway. For me, it's just fun to have a little extra cash to get special things for myself and not have to go into our budget, so for me it's worth the small amount of time I put into it.

I would advise just to sign up for a couple and see how it goes... see if you like it, if it's worth your time, and then decide if you want to continue. Just a FYI... these companies do not send you any spam, it's so nice - I had opened a new yahoo account just for surveys thinking I would get lots of spam, and I have not gotten a single thing. So you don't have to worry about that. Also so you know, a lot of them, in the sign up process, they try to get you to sign up for all these other promotional things - I *always say no to everything listed.

I signed up for that synovate one, but have not received anything from them and it has been 24 hours. I wonder what's going on with that.

For those that wanted to know, here's what I made last year from surveys. I get 1-5 surveys a day and usually don't manage to take all of them--if I did, these numbers would be a little higher.
$107-Global Test Market
$57-Greenfield Online
$40-Keynote (amazon $$)
$20-My 2 Cents
$10-My Survey
$10-Lightspeed
$9-Survey Savvy
$6-ACOP
$5-Synovate

I also made $160 in amazon cash from two communities that I was invited to join through taking a survey. They give out amazon rewards for monthly activity.

TOTALS: $234 cash and $200 amazon.com

I have been a memeber of My Survey for @ 6 years. I have gotten several $10 checks over the years. About 5 years ago I got paid $10 up front to survey diapers. They would send me different brands of diapers(without labels) for me to try. I would fill out the questionare about each brand. I did not know until it was over what each brand was. I do remember that the diaper I picked as BEST was a generic from Winn Dixie. I am a STRONG pampers fan. I am participating in a survey right now where I earn $1 a month just for sticking my credit card offers in an envelope and mailing it back!

i too had signed on yestreday and it said there were currently no surveys that match my profile...i guess that means no money for me right now...i'm still a bit sketchy on all of this. i signed up for global and syno. maybe i'll sign on a few more today. Angie, thanks for the heads up on all this, great to know there are ways to make a few extra bucks via internet.

Angie said...

We're definitely not paying for that trip to Paris with surveys! What I want to know is ...will they pay for diapers?

Another great survey company is Harris Poll Online. I recently redeemed my points for $25 in gift cards to Target. I have been a member for the past 7 years and have never had a problem.
