Is it bad that I'm usually a cheapo, but I've been wanting this one; even though I actually need a double stroller not another single.

You are so nice, Angie. I wouldn't spend that much money on stroller. I am happy with my Graco deluxe stroller.

Angie said...

I'm a Graco girl, myself. What's nice is how the expensive euro-stroller style has started to trickle down into more budget options. The new Gracos, Combis, etc., are so much more stylish than they were just three years ago.

Angie, You are so funny. I like how you are so busget conscience. It makes me feel better knowing that I don't have to spend money for some higher end items, when a mid-price is just as good. Thanks for the encouragement and reminder about being budget-wise.

Keep in mind, those of us that spend more on strollers aren't snobby. I have 2 BOB's...a single and a double. I bought them for the versatility...why by two strollers? - A Graco style and a joggging one? Why not have a stroller if you go off-roading/jogging often that fits your day to day needs as well....

I keep hearing/reading/seeing things (positive) about the Maclaren stroller. Do I need something like this? I am still putting my 2 year old in our Graco Metrolite. Am I the dorky mom strolling my toddler around in a baby stroller?

Angie said...

No judgment from me, Clifton Family. You're free to choose whatever suits your family best.

...but this is Baby Cheapskate!

Angie, you rock! (I'm "the one"). I know it's a bit ridiculous to pay this much for a stroller, but it's a long story. :-) Thanks so much for stepping outside your comfort zone to help!

Heather, If you're still looking for a Mac, let me know here. I could go on forever about a Maclaren stroller (and where to get one at a very doable price!)

Angie- this has been a refreshing cute post (after all the Britax drama)!

I'm with ya! I have a single Bob rev. and double rev. It's funny how some think you have to be completely thrifty for everything lol if not then your considered a stroller snob. It's so not true. Some things are worth paying a little more $$. Even then you can still get a deal on Bob if you do your research.

SMITHA said...

Can you find me a deal on the Baby Jogger City Elite double or the Bob double, pretty please? ;)

I really like to see the Baby Jogger City Mini Double! :o)

Just wanted to add that I got my BOB double from REI (already put together) when they were having a sale for $465 and to follow "cheapskate rules" that's $100 bucks off!!!!! I don't know if you want the BOB duallie revolution for front swivel wheels (IMO, the only way to go), you can always see when their next sale is going to be on them. That's the cheapest I EVER have seen it and I went to our local REI store to pick it up. :) Just wanted to let you know. I waited for months for that deal....

My cousin lives in Seattle & recently saw a BOB Revolution Duallie @ REI for $250 (I just didn't want to pay for the shipping to IL). Apparently they have a section there where they sell customer returns. That particular one was returned b/c the customer didn't like the color. I guess REI has an awesome return policy & people will return things after using them for a while. So check your closest REI store to see if they have a section like that.

Funny. I bought my Bugaboo while living in Europe, because I needed a stroller with real tires to handle the cobblestone, going up and down steps, and daily use (as opposed to streets/sidewalks/malls, elevators and in/out of the car). I realize Angie isn't judging with her post/comments, but there are real reasons outside of trends that these strollers exist, and why shouldn't those who purchase them try to save a few bucks? ;)

SMITHA said...

Thanks for the tips!! REI - here comes a stalker .. lol

Wish I could find a Mountain Buggy Urban Double as well to "compare" ;)

Saving (more) than a few bucks on whatever readers want to buy for their babies is what we're all about here, Maria.

I do know of a few deals right now on Bugaboo. I just can't bring myself to post them! LOL!

If anybody wants to know, they can email me directly.

Angie,

Maybe you can dedicate a separate website for just the higher end stuff. That way you can cater to those who have more money to spend on things, just as this website caters to those who don't. You have done so well with this one!

I'm not hating on the people with more money-I wish I had more to spend-but you want to save money on those higher end items, too! There should be a site for you too!

Andrea... can you tell me a few reasons why you really like the Maclaren strollers?

Coming in with Maclaren stroller review. We have a Maclaren that we picked up at Marshalls for like $80.00 because it was out of the box and last year's model (like my kid really knows). Anyhow, I love it but more importantly my husband doesn't stop talking about how smooth and easy it is. We love the weight of the sroller and the ease of opening and closing it. We don't personally live in an urban area where walking is suitable but recently visited San Francisco. There are a lot of walkers there with kids obviously, everyone had a Maclaren or better.

Negatives on the stroller, it doesn't recline fully back. Saw kids sleeping in their other strollers and our Maclaren just doesn't have that much room to lean back to 180 degrees. Our Maclaren is not all "tricked" out with cup holders, key holders, and all the other bells and whistles. We just have a standard mesh net on the bottom.

Love the Maclaren!

I consider myself a very practical cheapskate who looks for VALUE: what do I get for my money, regardless of what it costs in absolute terms. Sometimes expensive items are worth it, sometimes they aren't(in this context). Evaluating "worth" and "value" are very individual things, obviously, but sites and collaboration like we have here sure do help in the decision-making process.

We got a Bob Rev 9 months ago and put about 5 miles on it everyday. We live in downtown Seattle and have put it through snow, rain(lots of it), mud, cobblestone streets, wind, jogging, department stores, elevators, etc. We've never regretted the purchase...and we'll have it for a long, long time, I'm sure.

Well 24 summed it up pretty good. Macs are very well made and push like a dream, one handed too!And they are taller than your average umbrella stroller. Not a lot of bells and whistles (but I added a cup holder for myself and a stroller bag to the back of the seat for a little extra storage). The recline varies on the model you choose. Volo has none, Triumph is minimal, Quest is a little deeper w/ a legrest that can be moved. The larger Techno has an even deeper recline (almost flat, I believe) Also, Macs have pretty high weight limits- 55 lbs. on the first three and 65 on the higher end models. They are very "tippy" if you hang stuff on the back when the child gets out of the stroller. But the pros definitely outweigh the cons.HTH

Regarding the more expensive stuff (BOB, Quinny, etc) - you can find the good deals at StrollersPlace.com

I love the 'higher-end posts' as well. Keep it up!

We have a Maclaren, and although I usually wear my baby in a sling, it it the nicest stroller I have pushed. It is very sturdy, doesn't tip over, is tall enough for my 6'5'' husband, comes with a rain guard and is super easy to open and close.

We got ours on sale a while back and it is worth every penny. I know it will last through many children, ours, and I will be able to pass it on for someone else to use. Really, its cheaper in the long run, the resale price (craigslist or ebay) is really good, so we can make much of our money back in a few years if we want.

And, REI is the greatest company to work with.

One more comment re: Moutain Buggy Urban Double vs. BOB Duallie. I actaully got my Mountain Buggy off of Craigslist (before I splurged for the double BOB). They DO NOT COMPARE!!!!!!! Just as an FYI: If you are not using it for jogging/off-road type stuff, you will be fine, but anything that requires durability and distance use, go with the BOB. My MB was a huge waste of money, though I got a great deal off of CL and was able to re-sell what I paid for it. :) Just my 2 cents on the differences....
